Being a Female, What is your Clothing Style?

Let’s start with a fact…no matter how delicious you cook but if your food dish is not presentable, no one is going to taste it. Similarly, despite your amazing business services, your clients won’t be interested in contacting you until you get yourself noticed.

Our desperation to sell our products brings us to the magical world of Graphic Design which highlights our business in an alluring way. Undoubtedly, a business card is the most important marketing tool for every business but it shouldn’t be overly creative to overtake your logo design. Here are my reasons:

  • The unusual shape and size of your business card, makes the viewer miss out your logo.
  • If the logo of a company does not gain recognition, clients might get confused about your corporate identity in the long run.

Lately, I have noticed that company logos are hard to locate on overly decorative graphics of business cards. No wonder, business cards make you and your company memorable but never forget that your logo has its own important role. To leave a prominent and lasting impact on our clients, we prefer business cards with unusual shapes, colors and sizes but ignore our logo designs.

Today I have compiled some amazingly creative business cards which are not highlighting the company logos in prominent way…not all but most of them.I really appreciate the creative concepts of these business cards but after all it is the logo which earns recognition and stability for a business.

Question of the Post:

I am sure many of you won’t agree with this observation of mine but analyze your business card carefully and tell if you have done the same mistake?

I keep hearing that the logo is dead. The interactivity of these concepts is more memorable than their logo is or could be. The brand is so much more important than the logo, since logos simply support brand. They can provide brand recognition, but often (and more often lately) concept does this as well and more powerfully. Not that I don’t love logos or designing them, but the perspective of this posting is pretty narrow-sighted.

Great article, but why are all the business card images in GIF format? A lot of the quality is lost(all the dither)…

JPEG or PNG would produce better quality.

I guess when put into this perspective, it makes me want to run out and get some new cards made up..

I liked the rounded corner cards but mostly the talented minds that made all of them possible.

Designing a fun and original card can make a real impact on your clients, and get the attention of prospects. But it has to be dome tastefully and carefully. The message has to be clear… if not, it will have the opposite effect.

What floors me is that some of these cards are designers cards. I can understand thinking outside the box, I mean that’s what we’re here to do, but the main point of a card is a point of contact, not a master piece.

Great Article just when i needed.I would say it’s always nice to see how far someone can push something as simple as a business card. Thanks a lot.

The logos definitely get lost in some of these, but for the most part I think this is a pretty awesome collection of cards to inspire.

I agree with Oviartist on this one. The only one that seems outright inappropriate for the business is 29. Especially regarding design 3, it appears to emphasize the logo, not detract from it. Others make tactile the businesses in a memorable way, which is far more important than this post gives it credit for. Wouldn’t it be better to be remembered as the such-and-such company “with that great business card” than just stamping a logo into their minds? Also, if the business card design matches and complements the logo colors and feel, then clients will associate the logo with the card automatically, even if the card itself is more directly memorable.

The second best function a buisness card could have is for visual stimulation. If they don’t take your card and Google you straight away, the added credit of producing a card that’s fun to look at will make them want to keep it when emptying out their wallet of reciepts, old train tickets and library cards that haven’t been used for half a decade. I agree that a logo is important, and some audiences will repsond better to the logo than to a flashy card. Having both as almost independent identities cold widen your scope of possible clientele.

though a lot of these cards are overwhelming, most of them are clever and I don’t think take too much away from the brand.

I agree that designers can sometimes get carried away but that’s only the case if it weakens the brand. Oviartis said it well, “The brand is so much more important than the logo, since logos simply support brand”. These examples are successful and inspiring with the exception of #29 whom I feel got a little overzealous.

I’d say those business cards are really creative, the logos made the cards more attractive. It would definitely pull the interest of the person who will receive one of those cards.

Great post. Over the years I have kept with my same logo and contact layout but would change the back ground image/design on my business cards. I began to have people ask if I had a new card yet at trade shows and other events I would attend. The cards became kind of a trading card. I recently sold the company and in the process of starting up a new one. I hope to build a similar following. If marketed correctly this idea could help make you and your brand more memorable.

I’ve also ditched the logo in favour of something more, well subtle.

No logo, just the following copy on the front and contact details on the reverse (the company name is Aptly Creative).

    Design and marketing that is…

    …Aptly Creative

Interesting post! A majority of the design blogs have highlighted card designs like these in a very positive light… and for good reason. They showcase a lot of creativity and are all eye-catching marketing pieces. I don’t think they overshadow their respective brands at all (with the exception of #29. Is that beef jerky? What does that have to do with mergers and acquisitions?).

However, what we have to be concerned with first is the functionality of the card. Creative designs may definitely set you apart in terms of aesthetics, but isn’t their main purpose to provide the recipient with quick access to your contact information?

“Undoubtedly, a business card is the most important marketing tool for every business”

First of all, I doubt that. Second of all you contradict yourself by saying the logo is the more important than an interesting card. A “logo” set in times roman is like a 100lb inkjet business card. Quality logo, quality design, and a quality cards are all important.

I agree with Steevo, the only cards that loose the logo are ones that don’t actually have logo at all.

The .gifs are bothering me as well.

Nice compilation! Most of these cards are beautifully designed and I see their logos as part of it, I don’t think the design of the card is overtaking the logo design -I agree, though, that #29 is an exception.
I am also wondering why you posted the images in .gif format… it limits the colors and makes the images look low res.

I would have to agree that the purpose of a business card is diminished drastically when the company’s logo does not play a drastic enough role in the design of the card.

A lot of these cards are very well done, however, some of these cards seem unrealistic as a business card. One of the pluses to using business cards is that you can easily carry them with you everywhere you go. A couple of these designs don’t offer that ease of use.

Creative business cards certainly have their place. In my humble opinion a creative business card will have a larger number people to hang onto them and even show them to friends. Face it… if people toss your card in the trash they will not have your contact info.
