Earthquakes, Tsunami, Floods and all other natural disasters are a constant reminder for the humanity that we are facing a massive calamity…Global Warming. The phenomenon of Global Warming explains the rising of Earth’s average temperature, resulting rise in sea levels. Even though we study about global warming and its after-effects in schools and colleges, but are comfortably numb and unresponsive to this global social issue.

Since we all live in the same world, responsibility lies on each one of us to control this menace. Regardless of country, color or creed, this is a problem on which the whole world must unite to resolve. As graphic designers, we can also play a part by spreading awareness of global warming through our skills of graphic design. Print advertisements that spread awareness of global warming are one place where designers can use their creativity to play their part in this fight against this global threat.

In order to create awareness, I have amassed a collection of 30 creative print ads that are responsive towards the issue of Global Warming.

When animals can exhibit acts of compassion, then why can’t we as care for our fellow beings? As graphic designers, I feel that it is our duty to contribute in all ways possible for people in distress.

Last week, I had a pleasant encounter with Shonali Burke, an inspiring Social Media Enthusiast, actively working for the betterment of refugees in the world. An independent consultant and business communicator by profession, Shonali has been working with USA for UNHCR on the digital aspects of Blue Key campaign. Let me brief her working for this noble cause:

The Blue Key campaign is a symbol of the key to the home for all the homeless refugees in the world.

It is basically a $5 symbolic Blue Key pendant that is visually adorable and acts as a sign of support for the cause of refugees worldwide.

The aim of this campaign is to sell 6,000 keys to Americans (shipped within the US only) before the World Refugee Day on 20th June, 2011.

Whilst searching about the Blue ribbon campaign, I stumbled on several other organizations that use awareness products like pendants, wristbands and ribbons to promote their charity work. Among the many, following are 10 famous awareness items being employed for charity purposes:

A graphic designer’s talent is gauged by the graphic designing he does for his own identity. The works that he creates for his own personal use are a basis for determining his creative skills and competence. Graphic designers business cards, logos and web design all exemplify how inventive and resourceful a designer actually is. They bear testimonial to the creative instincts possessed by a graphic designer.

Although the advent of social media has made business meetings for graphic designers an online ordeal, the need for face-to-face acquaintance with clients is essential in building a strong and prosperous relationship. A business card is a useful promotional tool for graphic designers to spread their identity. The more creative the business card, the better your impression on the clients. Since your first impression is the last impression, it is imperative that you effectively exhibit your creativity through your business card.

Following is a collection of 28 creative and inspiring business cards of various graphic designers.

For those of you who have not come through my earlier post on ‘Rebranding cost of famous brands’, here is a preview of what this post is about. A few weeks ago, I did a post that featured the costs of rebranding famous brands like PEPSI, BP and Accenture. I received an overwhelming response, both positive and negative, from my valued readers.

While many were of the opinion that the rebranding costs were exorbitant. Many graphic designers and people from graphic design field rebuked by asserting that rebranding costs are justifiable based on the amount of work and processes entailed. This debate compelled me into writing a sequel post on rebranding and its aftermath.

When is Rebranding a mistake?

When you rebrand just for the sake of it, thinking you feel like rebranding just isn’t sufficient to overhaul the images of your brand.

When your customers are devoted to your previous brand identity and are more faithful to it, rebranding may lose brand loyal customers.

When rebranding does not reap proportional benefits and costs more than it pays.

When you rebrand because your competitor did so, you are making a mistake of rebranding without purpose.

When you rebrand without adequate research, repositioning the image without studying consumer demographics and psychographics is dangerous.

When you think that rebranding only means a logo redesign, or altering the stationery and corporate colors. Rebranding entails a whole bundle of intangible items that are needed to be considered as well.

Which is the right time for Rebranding?

When your brand equity is deteriorating or stagnant, that indicates you need a thorough rebranding to overhaul the identity of your brand.

When your customers don’t seem to favor your brand identity anymore, it’s time that you reposition your brand in the minds of your consumers.

When your brand gets caught up in a controversy, a repositioning is required to improve the tarnished reputation.

When the rebranding has the muscle to offset the cost it incurs, meaning it has the potential to pay off in the long run.

When you realize that your current brand positioning isn’t valid for the target market anymore, or your target market changes.

How well have famous rebranding performed?

In my previous post, I received quite a bit of complaints from some of the visitors saying that I did not properly analyze the cost of rebranding. Thus I would like to make an effort this time around to examine one of the most famous rebranding, that of Pepsi. In the end, you can be the judge if the rebranding is acceptable or not.

Pepsi Rebranding – A comprehensive Analysis:

The Pepsi rebranding was handled by Arnell Group. Its three years strategy involves $1.2 billion, a complete packaging, merchandising and marketing overhaul of its soft drinks. Let me remind my readers that the total brand value of Pepsi is estimate around $ 16 billion as compared to Coca-Cola’s $68 billion. The rebranding amount involves all kinds of promotional and ATL and BTL marketing activities. Now let us analyze the impact of the rebranding. It has been one year since the overhaul took place. There are no figures of ‘out of the blue’ sales jump or consumer liking about the rebranding reported. On the contrary, Pepsi has received far more censure than any other brands for its directionless rebranding. The real question is…the sales that Pepsi is generating now, are they more than what they would have earned without the rebranding?

The advertising world is packed with creative ideas and imaginative advertisement messages. The job of an advertiser is to effectively persuade the target audience into buying a certain product or service. Creative ads are the ones that have the power to sell. But there is a vast difference between generating a TV ad and producing a print ad.

Print ads are hardest to execute because of the lack of space and freedom. Within a limited domain, you need to effectively place your message to the target audience. Hence, minimalist and conceptual print ads are helpful in serving the cause perfectly. In a print ad, less use of graphic design can yield more substance to the copy. This is where the services of a talented graphic designer come in handy.

Following are 30 of the most stunning minimalist print ads that say more with less.
