Being a Female, What is your Clothing Style?

Being a graphic designer, I have been an avid follower of new developments and techniques in graphic design. However, there is one advancement that has always enthralled me…animations and motion graphics and lately I stumbled upon a unique technique that left me mesmerized. After gazing those pictures for quite some time, I pondered to myself…are these images or videos? No it’s a cinemagraph. For those who are unaware of this terminology, let me tell that it’s a sophisticated and refined version of creating animated GIF’s.

Cinemagraph is a technique of blending the effects of images and videos. It was introduced by a New York fashion photographer Jamie Beck, in collaboration with motion graphics designer Kevin Burg. Since then, many other designers have created similar forms of cinemagraphs. However, I found some very exciting, funny and extremely creative cinemagraphs here and decided to exhibit them for you guys.

Some of these 22 cinemagraphs will take time to load, so be patient and watch each of them carefully….you will really enjoy them.

This is a great technique. Thanks for the link Steve Marsel, that was also a great article. I feel this has so many possibilities like bringing photos to life. Examples one and two show how this could work, with small movements a subtle effect can be created and engage viewers into your work and catch their eye more than a standard photo would. This is definitely something I will look into using in my work.

These are excellent, spent ages watching some of them :)

The guy at the pool table is great – done that myself and think it is a great example. A great selection.

These are really nice ideas and the one that really work are the subtle ones that make you think at first that they are a photographic still.

That technique it’s like a stop motion but freezing all the other parts of the current photo… Amazing, really, interesting, I would like to learn, but I’m just a design student yet… I think i have a lot of time to investigate about it. Thanks for sharing this with us !

You really do learn something new every day. Cinemagraphs are awesome, they are like classic photos brought to life, these would look brilliant playing on a digital photo frame, Harry Potter style. You have inspired me to make some myself.
