As a fiction writer, I know almost nothing about graphic design, which is why I love this blog.
Occasionally, though, I notice blogs with a busy, pre-fab background. Without something else to luring me in--and it will need to be powerful--that's enough to turn me away. I've come across really interesting blogs where it was almost impossible to comment. (Wordpress demands tricky passwords and is slow to get back if you've forgotten it.)
This blog appealed to me before. The redesign is so smooth, a non-visual type like me scarcely notices it. Navigating here couldn't be smoother.

I'm going to have to disagree and say I like the orange as it becomes an effective highlight box.

However, you could do some more work on this re-design to get the colour balance working - which I think is what people have a problem with.

This is an original banner - right?
I think you need to add some orange to the top/left corner of the banner. Re-use the decoration that's in the banner already, rotate 108 degrees, re-colour to orange, and scale down a little. Then ancor it in the top/left of the banner.

I also think that if you keep the orange, the logo should use some of this - replacing the red colour... OR replace all orange with the red.

New logo is good. Should the green be yellow? From my understanding, red, blue and yellow are "design colours".

I'm not fond of the red in the top navigation. It's a hard read on the grey. A darker grey would help. Or if you plan to add more orange, that would be good also.

As for the wallpaper - not sure of the relevance. It does the job of making the page stand out, but... so... what's it for? The monotone image is great - but maybe you could find something more relevant... even pencils would be better.

Anyway, congratulations on the new design. I had been seeing your old template on other blogs alot - I think it's nice to add some of your own design into the blog... if possible.

Great site mate! Overall the redesign is good. Layout is good. And yes i think most comment on the header and the orange part are right... the orange part is a little off.. i mean maybe the color is too strong on that side. The header must be missing something. But then again, overall layout is nice and clean... keep it up.

There's something a little unbalanced with the header style and the background. I think the deisgn is nice and generic, but perhaps if you pushed your own personal style more it would have more personality and design integrity.

Great images my friend, but when i think of a photo gallery i think of a nice dark museum full of interesting painting's and mysterious images, kind of like the wax museum in San Fransisco. But maybe its just me, anyway good job with your new look and keep us updated.
