Being a Female, What is your Clothing Style?

Photoshop is every graphic designer’s launch pad towards professional designing. The power of Photoshop manipulation is inconceivable. Every day we observe heaps of celebrity photos, snaps and conceptual print ads that are professionally buffed through Photoshop to make them acceptable on screen. However, there is a distinction between a Photoshopped snap and a photography snap.

The Technique – Playing With Forced Perspective:

You must have come across pictures that make you say “this is definitely photoshopped”, but after a closer examination you find out that they are actually not. They are claimed NOT to be photoshopped. The technique used in this type of photography is “forced perspective”. By definition, forced perspective is a technique that utilizes visual illusion to make an object appear farther, closer, smaller or bigger than it actually is. This technique is widely employed in cinematography where miniature objects are used and posed as life-size items.

Have a look at these 24 incredible images that are claimed NOT to be photoshopped.

Who’s big now?

The Dramatic Fall – Matrix Style

You Decide:

Although these images are titled "NOT to be photoshopped" but I would like you all to decide if the title is justified. And for the last image…don’t you find it hard to believe that it this picture is not photoshopped?

I think with a few of these images it’s hard to believe they’re not photoshopped – the last one is one of them, also the cloud spray one looks very photoshopped…

I’ve actually come across Li Wei’s images (The Dramatic Fall) recently and I looked through a bunch of them…they’re pretty spectacular, but for the life of me I could not figure out he is able to do that… some of them are outrageous and look very dangerous…it would be cool to see him in action.

I think that at this point, with how widespread the use of photoshop is, it’s hard to really be able to know whether it was used to manipulate an image or not – since all you have to go on is what the creator is claiming.

Some images seemed not to be photoshopped but the others, esp that cloud spray thing obviously is.

The others with the books or the balcony picture or maybe the one with the chair, isn’t about perspective or illusion. Some of them are set up that way, like making sculpture. It’s not manipulated with photoshop but it also isn’t because of the angle.

It really can’t be about the picture or photographer if the “illusion” is already set up like that in front of the camera.

I don’t think the spork photo IS Photoshopped. The key is the back of the spoon where the shadow doesn’t meet the object (as it should). I think it is a sheet of tracing paper/frosted glass with a fork on the other side – out of our view. You’re seeing the footprint of a fork, not the shadow of the fork.

First, what proof do you have all these are not photshopped. I think you should post titles responsibly instead of posting one like this.

The cloud spray would actually be quite easy to do without photoshopping it. All you have to do is put up a spray can in front of the camera and meet it up with a cloud……………no brainer, right?

the horse one is stupid, it’s just turned its head to the side to look at the person walking by it and the photographer snapped the picture

I agree with “Guy.” I believe the fork shadow is actually a ghosted image of an actual fork coming through from the other side of the white paper on which the spoon sits.

    Hey GUY! Calm down.
It’s all in good FUN! After all its says “THEY CLAIM” to not have been manipulated.

    GREAT POST btw!

I feel some were taken by chance. A split second where they captured all the right objects in the frame of the shot and with true to life proportion.-(Jesus is that a brain. Rocket Bird, Big foot, Gotcha, Ballerina, and many more)

Gotcha: I mean you can see the Dad’s thumb blocking his son on the left side showing his hand is in the foreground.

The shelf i don’t understand and I cringed at the HUGE chair and guy on bike underneath…Links back to what I said above.-BUT REVERSE. There is noo way that the photo wasn’t manipulated. Either they built A REALLY HUGE CHAIR….or there was some slice tool action!!

The Horse was probably licking himself.!!-:)

and the spray can one looks like a case of the CLONE STAMP to me!!

THANKS FOR THIS POST-I ENJOYED IT!

Of course the cloud one isn’t photoshopped. Anyone who’s actually ever looked at clouds before would know that it’s not an imposible shape. God.
It probably isn’t a very accurate title though, considering most have most likely been photoshopped to an extent (exposure, saturation, cropping, etc.)

“A Drop From Heaven” and “Bubble Trouble” have to do with refractive qualities of a lead crystal ball. The perspective of the photos are upside-down.

@Guy…It is not me but the source that has claimed these pictures to be photoshopped. The proof are the provided links from which these pictures were taken.

@ Nathaniel @Guy…Coming to the part regarding the spork image…the spoon is sitting on paper, the fork is taped on the other side of the paper and light is being shined on it which casts a shadow onto the paper that shows through to the other side. Hence the fork shadow under spoon.

@Graeme…accurate analysis of the spork image dude :)

@Misty…spot on! You can use the cloud spray trick with many other objects like a tea kettle or an ice-cream as well.

@Cynthia Prada…I appreciate the way you’ve elucidated the core purpose of this post… “It’s all in good fun!”

Half of the images used are probably real, for instance the boy holding a cup under waterfall or the two girls lifting the massive rock, all that’s done there is that the person/people are standing in front to give the illusion that the large object is smaller.

The spork is lit from below.
Its interesting how backlit objects can stay completely black as light does not like to go around corners.

Also, I find, interesting how people want to believe what they see, even if they see it frozen with the one eyed distorted lens.

I find it amazing at how many people think the cloud image is photoshopped! Hilarious that you question that one, but not the others using similar techniques.

Those photos are truly amazing if they’re not photoshopped. I particularly love the one with the flower as her dress. It’s really beautiful. The “dramatic fall” seems virtually impossible. I just started taking classes in design and photoshop. Mostly though, I just use free tools from Sessions College for Professional Design, as they have been really useful for me.

Thanks for the blog post. All the pictures are unqiue and beautiful in there own way but to say that all of the pictures are not photoshopped is BS…there is no way all of them are real because I don’t think images can be concieved they were with some sort of software ex “Look Who’s Big Now.” Are they really not photoshopped?

Some of them are good pics using perspective to yield the desired result. If all are actual pics a couple people behind the camera got a lucky shot. Example the bird over the jet.

Very cool post! I think most of them actually are real, the books falling out of the building is actually a sculpture I have seen a photograph of it before, it is real. Most of them arent that hard to figure out if you sit and think about it and the use of angles.

The Dramatic Fall is part Photoshopped. Thepullies and wires suspending the man were erased.

As for the Spork-picture, I think it’s semi-translucent ‘glass’ with a fork on the underside, and the spoon on top.

@Spork – It’s a sketch. Both the spoon & fork shadow have been drawn!

Yes, “Dramatic Fall” has had some safety wires removed… saw an article on it somewhere.

I think the point of “Ghost Cabinet” is that it’s been turned on its side… just a plank resting on its side with the two pencils propped up on it. But it’s not a great illusion because it would be easy enough to mount a shelf to the wall and prop up the pencils as shown.

With the “Spork” I like the idea that the fork is casting the shadow from below… my initial thought was that the fork shadow could actually be sketched onto the paper, and the spoon lit from all sides to eliminate any actual shadows from the spoon.

Some cool images though, and thought provoking. I keep meaning to try some images with refraction or inversion through crystal and the like.
