These stats are so detailed. It’s also cool that you included colorful graphs. I guess Facebook should be scared. Twitter is too close behind.

Clearly Facebook is the powerhouse of social media, and from these statistics it doesn’t look like that will be changing anytime soon, or will it? I’ve often wondered myself if Facebook will eventually lose its popularity and go the way of MySpace. After all, MySpace used to be “cool,” right?

That leads me to another question, what is the lifespan of a social-media website?
Ten years ago the term “social media” didn’t even exist, and now Facebook accounts for more than half the time that people spend on the Internet. (

With more and more social-media websites fighting for our time like Pinterest and Google+, one would conclude that Facebook will be crowded out. If not, has Facebook reached a threshold of business investment and user activity worldwide that it has become an essential part of our everyday lives? Has Facebook become the Walmart of social media?

Very interesting stats indeed. Actually the 48% female users on SU came as a surprise to me. One question though.. Why is it that Pinterest don’t show anywhere? Must have a reason for that, right?

Hi DiTesco, I’m glad you enjoyed our post. This post was written in early 2012 and the social media ratings change rapidly these days. All the social media platforms mentioned here were popular and big ones. It’s just that some were more famous than others at the time.

Pinterest is one of my favorites too. You should definitely check our blog’s Pinterest profile:
